Bob Seger is one of the icons of American rock having spent four decades at the top of the music tree and still performs to sell-out crowds to this day. Born Robert Clark Seger in May of 1945, the singer-songwriter has written some of the best classic rock songs and blues ballads of the last forty years and has achieved worldwide acclaim for both his solo and band work. A proud native of Detroit, Seger began performing locally in the 1960’s with early bands Bob Seger and the Last Heard and the Bob Seger System before forming the now legendary Silver Bullet Band in 1974. Seger and his band, all from the Detroit area, quickly built up a devoted following and the 1976 release of the album “Live Bullet” saw them achieve national recognition. Recorded in concert at the Cobo Arena, the album featured Seger’s version of Ike and Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limits” as well as earlier hits “Turn the Page”, “Heavy Music” and “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” and is still considered one of the finest live albums ever recorded. More success followed later the same year with studio recording “Night Moves” giving Bob Seger his first top ten Billboard album. “Night Moves” contained some of Seger’s finest songs to date including the title track, “Rock and Roll Never Forgets” and the haunting “Mainstreet” which reached number twenty-four in the singles charts. More successful albums followed with “Stranger in Town” being released in 1978, “Against the Wind” in 1980 and 1982’s “The Distance”. Despite now being at the pinnacle of his success, Seger didn’t release another album for four years when he returned to the Top 20 singles charts with “American Storm” from the album “Like a Rock” which peaked at number twelve on Billboard’s Hot 100. Seger has only released four albums since “Like a Rock” in 1986 but, although all were critically acclaimed, none of them reached the same volume of sales of his earlier works. However, the “Greatest Hits” compilation of 1994 had sales of 10 million in the U.S.A. alone and the 1996 tour was one of the biggest selling of that year proving that Seger is truly one of the true superstars still actively touring today.
